It began as a conversation with myself. Would there be some way my fellow countrymen and I reach across the ocean in a creative accord? Could we bring to the table something other than delight in the dreadful weather back home and an unlimited taste for fine wine? Could poetry be the starting place for a new dialogue? I have failed to mention the nature of the project, but do so now, with pride. It was a casa dos poetas, the first genuinely Anglo Portuguese Poetry Festival in the Algarve. It was established in 1997 and continues to this day, constantly evolving, but remaining true to the original spirit and principles: Only Connect, as Forster put it.
